Job Summary
Develops and improves manufacturing processes by studying product design, researching equipment/tooling capabilities, reviewing manufacturing methods and Miller Fabrication Solutions standard practices. This position interacts with personnel from other departments to ensure company goals and customer expectations are attained. Developing and implementing Continual Improvement projects are integral to this position. This person plays a big role in contributing to 5S and Lean Manufacturing projects and is an active participant in meeting the objectives of these projects.

Responsibilities

  • Work hand in hand within the work cell, senior managers and the operators to schedule and flow product through.
  • Ability to produce production reports and present to senior managers.
  • Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production.
  • As requested, recruit, hire, train, supervise, and direct work of part-time and full-time employees. This will also include appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards.
  • Ability to read and understand part drawings and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of engineering standard practices that include drawing layout and GD&T.
  • Assures product and process quality, involved with resolving quality issues.
  • Helps new product and/or process startups. This includes pre-planning for assembly fixtures/templates, create CAD models/drawings, machine setups and programs.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; attending manufacturing trade shows, conferences and seminars.
  • Utilizes various software programs for daily job functions.
  • Ability to make effective and rational decisions within a very narrow timeframe.
  • Flexibility (including hours) and willingness to work in situations of flux.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior management in the company.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to take ownership for wide-ranging responsibilities.

  • Employee must sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Employee must be able to read, see, hear, and speak English.
  • Position requires frequent physical exertion. Incumbent will frequently be required to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds, and larger amounts with assistance. Incumbent may need to operate crane and forklift.
  • The work location includes a warehouse and fabrication shop setting, which will expose the employee to dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and loud noises.
  • Position requires limited exposure to outdoor elements (extreme heat, cold temperatures, snow, ice, etc.).
  • Employee may be required to use tools, including but not limited to: basic hand tools, saws, grinders, mills, lathes, bending tools, drill press, band saw, scale, stamping tool.
  • Employee must wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) including gloves, safety glasses, ear protection and steel-toed boots, and any other PPE as required in the production area. PPE will be provided by the company with the exception of steel-toed boots.
  • Employee will give full attention to all tasks.
  • Employee will follow all safety policies/practices/guidelines and will ensure all safety requirements are met or exceeded when performing all tasks.
  • Employee will work to identify hazards and unusual circumstances and will assist in the continual improvement of safety practices and procedures.
  • Employee will participate in safety training programs.
  • Employee will ask questions, share and apply learning.
  • Employee will request help (if needed) to do all work safely.

Job Requirements
Experience: 3 plus years related experience and/or training.
Education:  Bachelor's degree in Business, or equivalent experience.

Other abilities:

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and customers.
  • Ability to calculate figures, amounts and build formulas.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, trigonometry and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in a written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to prioritize within a fast-paced environment.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a strong knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office, databases, and Crystal Reports. Presenting technical information, CAD, CAD/CAM.
