Job Summary

In this role, Miller Fabrication Solutions is looking for a manufacturing manager who will be responsible for direction, strategy, planning and execution of all plant operations to achieve safety, quality, schedule, and cost objectives. This role also includes presenting a professional appearance in line with the following job responsibilities as well as presenting a professional attitude.

 

Pre-Qualifications

  • Education:  High School diploma required; 2-year college degree in related field desirable; 4-year degree preferred.
  • Experience:  10 years minimum experience in manufacturing management or shop supervision in a discrete hard goods manufacturing environment; preferably machining, welding, and fabrication.
  • Ability to lead a department and/or process and achieve corporate goals
  • Deep knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and practices
  • Working knowledge of best practices with respect to ERP, performance metrics, and budgeting
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret normal daily communication, common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, legal documents, common inquiries or complaints from customers, and regulatory agencies.
  • Excellent math skills in terms of accurately calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, area, circumference, volume, time card related calculations, and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry;
  • Ability to read and understand product design prints, bills-of-material, routings, work instructions, quality specs and related documents
  • Flexibility in working hours as required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Very good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Have a valid and current driver’s license.
  • Able to work effectively in high-pressure situations.

 

 

Responsibilities

1. Manage plant operations:

                        a) Manage employees and hands-on operation of the facilities manufacturing function, whether in-house or sub-contracted;

            b) Ensure that, as the company grows, manufacturing capabilities meet or exceed all industry and customer requirements for cost, quality and responsiveness;

            c) Work closely with the Director of Manufacturing and other plant managers on manufacturing plans, goals, and future product innovations;

            d) Ensure that operations are staffed correctly and all people are properly trained;

            e) Develop and manage budgets with a focus on product costs and margins;

            f) Direct all production control and production process development in the facility;

            g) Partner with sales team to meet with customers to discuss and set scheduling timelines for product delivery requirements;

            h) Maintain a well-organized, neat, clean, and safe workplace;

            i) Assist with designing and arranging the physical factory layout, work flow, workplaces, and material handling;

            j) Analyze and balance required capacity vs. available capacity per the S&OP document;

            k) As required, recruit, hire, train, supervise, and direct work of part-time and full-time employees within the facility;

            l) Scope includes direct labor team members, maintenance, kitting, shipping, and receiving.

                                   

2. Provide team support

            a) Work with engineering to ensure that all BOM’s and routings are accurate;

            b) Work with engineering to ensure that all tooling, fixtures, and programs are fit-for-use;

            c) Work with sales and estimating to ensure that all costing is accurate;

            d) Work with accounting to ensure that all budgeting and forecasting is accurate;

            e) Work with scheduling to ensure that all work order and operational due dates are valid;

            f) Work with HR on staffing and training needs.

 

3. Learning & Continuous Improvement

            a) Maintain awareness of management techniques, software and other relevant technologies being developed in the marketplace;

            b) Maintain awareness of best practices regarding welding, machining, and fabrication relevant to company processes;

            c) Maintain awareness of best practices for managing manufacturing operations.

 

4. Strategic Management    

            a) Assist in developing short and long term strategies to reduce cost and improve supply chain, demand planning and procurement;

            b) Participate in and provide support for strategic projects;

            c) Participate in and support all S&OP related activities as required;

            d) Participate in establishing the annual operating budget, updating the forecast monthly, and managing to meet or beat budget expectations.

 

Personal Protection Equipment (As required in production area):

  1. Must wear safety glasses with side shields (ANSI Z87.1-1989.) 
  2. Must wear full face shield in addition to eye protection when using 4” or larger hand grinders
  3. Must wear steel-toed safety shoes (ANSI Z41-1991.)
  4. Must wear hearing protection
